This is just a little crazy: a movie made for IBM by Ogilvy & Mather New York from individual atoms. Huh? yes, what you’re actually watching are individual atoms magnified 100 million times. Using a device called a “scanning tunneling microscope” individual atoms are moved around and recorded in stop motion format. And so they created this, A Boy and His Atom. Magnified 100 million times. Nuts, totally nuts.
Put three country folk bands [Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show] on a train that takes them from San Francisco to New Orleans, playing gigs at several cities along the way. Film the whole thing, edit it beautifully and pair with the music from the gigs and you have Big Easy Express. Part music video, part documentary, all very cool in that “far out” hippie country kinda way. Buy the film on iTunes here.
The National has risen to superstardom, so it makes sense a documentary on them has appeared. However, this is said to be more than a rock doccie. Made by lead singer Matt Berninger’s younger, heavy metal-loving unknown brother, Tom Berninger, it’s more the story of the band, their High Violet tour and Tom’s relationship with his famous brother. Regardless of how it turns out (it’s received critical acclaim already), you know one thing: the soundtrack will be great.
This is a rather amazing story of Ian Ruhter and the large-scale wet plate photographs he takes, essentially using a van as a camera. People following their dream to create work that is truly original, nothing more inspiring than that.
Romain Gavras, the director best known for his music videos done for M.I.A. as well as Kanye West with Jay Z, has cracked one of the most epic commercials of late, this one for Samsung. Big budgets are fun, yes indeed.
A short video of life in New York City. If you’ve lived in NYC, you’ll recognise many of the featured spots. In fact, it’s rather an obvious thing to say, but this video is just so New York in terms of feel and soundtrack.

What a cool video. What a cool song. It’s kind of hypnotizing, the visual effect making you watch all the way through. And the song, by Clubfeet, sounds a touch like MGMT, with a mellow 80′s disco feel. Nicely done by Oh Yeah Wow productions from Melbourne, Oz.
It’s a black & white short film shot in very old school indie arthouse style, but it really is a rather cool story with its dry sense of humour and quirky characters. Death To The Tinman also happens to be made by team behind Beasts of the Southern Wild.
View out a plane window, beautifully shot using a 5D Mark III and with a bit of post work and some mellow music makes for three minutes of calm black & white beauty. Put some noise-cancelling earphones on and watch this in the middle of a busy day for some meditation.
